506 - FRANCIS IRWYN HOUTZ, (son of No.489), married at Albion, Neb., Aug. 10th, 1899, NELLIE ESTHER ATWATER, born at Topeka, Ill., Feb. 26th, 1879, (dau. of EDWIN WILLIAM and ELLEN CYNTHIA (White) ATWATER).
Francis is a farmer in Boone Co., Neb. He was born near Secor, Woodford Co., Ill. He was a son of John C. and Sarah (Garst) Houtz. John C. Houtz was a descendant of Phillip Houtz, who came
to Lancaster Co., Penna., from Amsterdam, Holland, in 1730.
Francis I. Houtz received his common school education in his home
district, graduated from El Paso, Ill., High School and later
attended the Illinois State University at Champagne, Ill. He came
to Nebraska in 1897 and taught in Boone County schools for
several years. His wife is a descendant from David Atwater, who
came from Lenham, Kent, England, to America in 1637. He was one
of the founders of New Haven, Conn. David Atwater is also a
direct ancestor of Henry Ward Beecher and A. Atwater Kent, who is
well known for his radios.
