598 - EMERY ALTON PEFFLEY (son of No.589) married at El Dorado, Kan., July 8th, 1903, BEULAH MAUD SAPPINGTON, born at Winchester, Ill., Nov. 20th, 1873, (dau. of SAMUEL HARTLEY and EMMA (Dickerson) SAPPINGTON).
Emery moved to El Dorado with his parents in 1886. For several
years, when not in school, he was employed on ranches as a rider
in the old Indian Territory and also in Wyoming; was there when
it became a state. Later he went into office work, and finally
banking, which he has followed most of his life. He spent three
years in the U. S. Indian Service as Superintendent, being
located at Spokane, Wash., Pawhuska, Okla., and Rosebud, S. D. He
spent six years in Arizona, part of the time in a bank at Tucson, and the rest of the time in mining. He lived eight years in the
Rio Grande Valley in Texas. At present he is in the real estate
and insurance business. He has frequently written Western Stories
for publication. Emery has inherited the Peffley ability in wood
carving, and in his leisure moments carves excellent bas
reliefs.
