594 - ARTIE PEFFLEY (son of No.589) married at Leon, Kansas, Apr. 19th, 1893, PHOEBE CHARLOTTE BOELLNER, born at Henderson, Minn., Nov. 15th, 1867, died at Manhattan, Kan., June 15th, 1937 (dau. of JOHN HENRY CHRISTOFF and MARY ANN (Wagle) BOELLNER).

Artie received his education at Ladoga, attending the Central Indiana Normal School at Ladoga, moved with his parents to El Dorado, Kan. in 1886 and began teaching in 1887 and followed this profession for twelve years, teaching in Butler, and Sheridan counties in Kansas and Rio Blanco and Prowers counties in Colorado. Artie was principal of the school at Meeker, Colo. and Selden, Kan., taught in small College at El Dorado, Kan., Instructor in Teachers' Institutes in Butler and Sheridan counties, Kan., was one time Surveyor of Butler Co., Kan., was Asst. Editor of Educational Advance and Editor of Industrial Advocate, Eldorado, Kan., and at one time Telegraph Correspondent for the Wichita Beacon. He was in the merchandising business for twelve years. Moved to Manhattan, Kan., where he educated his children; is now City Treeman. Member of Methodist Church and an I. O. O. F. (1940) Publisher of the Augusta Advocate, Augusta, Arkansas, USA.

Ladoga, April 5 - -Relatives here were notified Friday of the death of Artie Peffley, who passed away Wednesday, April 2, at a hospital in Amarillo, Texas, where he had been a patient the past two weeks with a complication of diseases.
Mr. Peffley was born Aug. 23, 1867, near Ladoga, a son of Zachariah and Nancy (Parkhurst) Peffley, one of six children. He was married April 19, 1893 to Phoebe Charlotte Boellner at Leon Kansas, and she died June 15, 1937. HE had been in falling health since last August when he made his last visit here with relatives.
He was a member of the M. E. Church and I.O.O.F. lodge at Manhattan, Kans. He attended the Ladoga normal school and in 1886 moved to Kansas. He taught school 12 years in Kansas and Colorado; was surveyor of Butler county, Kans., and telegraph correspondent for The Beacon at Wichita, Kans. He was in the merchandising business for 12 years and later city tree man at Manhattan until he retired following his wifeâ€(tm)s death.
Mr. Peffley is survived by one daughter, Evelyn Griffiths of Augusta, Ark., and one son, Irvin Peffley of Amarillo, Tex.; three granddaughters, Meredith of Augusta; Dorothy Grace and Ruth Marie Peffley of Amarillo, Texas. One son Elba Boellner Peffley, died in France, Sept. 29, 1918 and was buried ata (sic) Exemont, France, during the World War. He is also survived by two brothers, Omer, of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Emery of Brady, Texas; two sisters, Alice Priest of Santa Barbara, and Bertha Boellner of El Dorado, Kans. He was preceded in death by a brother, Albert.
Other near relatives who reside in the Ladoga community at five cousins, Mrs. Mart Miller, Grant Rose, Mrs. May Benson, Clayton Mahorney and Mrs. Lula Goshorn, besides other cousins in Indiana.
The funeral was held at Manhattan, Kans., Friday with burial there.
