Hi Jeffery -The correct spelling of her name is Maudie vice Maude. Here's what I have on Maudie Ella LASHER and her parents:

Ancestors of Maudie Ella LASHER - 2 Jul 2001

FIRST GENERATION

1. Maudie Ella LASHER was born on June 26, 1891 in Bern, KS. Maudie was twin to Hubert Lasher who died at birth. She was baptized on September 9, 1891 in Bern, KS.
Maud Ella was baptized by D. Swart in the presence of Minnie Custard (her mother's sister) and Emma Swart.

She died on August 18, 1980 in Dinuba, CA. She was buried about August 20, 1980 in Smith Mountain Cemetery.

SECOND GENERATION

2. David Adelbert "Del" LASHER,Jr. (2, 3) was born on February 16, 1861 in Wilkes Barre, PA. He died on February 6, 1928 in Orosi, Tulare Co., CA. The following obituary was most likely published in an Orosi, Tulare Co., CA newspaper.

David A. Lasher, native of Pennsylvania, passed away about 4:00 oclock this morning at his home in Orosi, Tulare Co., at the age of 66 years, 11 months and 21 days. He had been in ill health for sometime, suffering from asthma, but was not seriously sick until yesterday afternoon. Left to mourn his loss are his widow, Mrs. Lillian Lasher and four children, Ivan Lasher and Clayton Lasher and Mrs. May Blevins of Nebraska and Mrs. Maudie Blyth of Orosi. Two sisters, Mrs Lizzie Burch of Kansas and Mrs. Lillie Britt of Illinois also survive.

Funeral services have not yet been arranged but the body will probably be shipped east for burial. Dopkins undertaking parlors have charge. He was buried on February 10, 1928 in Smith Mountain Cemetery.

David and Lilly moved to Bern, Kansas on 15 May 1864. David and his family moved to Dubois, Nebraska with his father on 1 Mar 1869 to mine coal. In later years he operated a hardware store in Wymore, Nebraska.

He moved to Orosi, Tulare Co., CA in 1925 where he operated a Ranch, and grew grapes and olives.

Obituary: The following, taken from the Dinuba (Calif.) Sentinel, tells of the funeral services held for David. "Last sad rites were held Friday afternoon, Feb 10, at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist Church in Orosi for David Adelbert Lasher. Rev. John R. Huff, Evangelist of Berkeley, assisted by Rev. Jesse Crumpton of Orosi, Tulare Co., conducted the services. Interment was made by Dopkins Undertaking parlors in the Smith Mountain Cemetery.

... Mr. Lasher was born near Scranton, Pennsylvania on Feb 16, 1861. He was married to Miss Lilly Ida Custard, January 1, 1887, at Bern, Kansas and to this union were born four children, two sons and two daughters. Ivan Lasher and Clayton Lasher of Wymore, Nebraska, Mrs. Mae Blevins of Beatrice, Nebraska, and Mrs. Earl Blythe, of Orosi, Tulare Co., California. He was a hardware merchant of Wymore for thirty years, coming to California five years ago to live for the benefit of his health. Twenty-seven years ago Monday he became associated with the Methodist Church of which he has been a faithful member until his sudden death at 4 o'clock Monday morning, Feb 6, 1928 at the age of 66 years and 11 months." He was married to LILLY IDA CUSTARD on January 1, 1888 in the old Custard homestead at Bern, KS.

3. Lilly Ida CUSTARD2 was born on September 10, 1863 in Hamilton Twp.. She was baptized on November 16, 1863 in St. John's (Custard) Church.(4) Rev. Henry Seifert officiated. Sponsors were her parents and St. John's Church. She died on May 8, 1938 in Orosi, Tulare Co., CA. An obituary datelined Wymore, May 10 (1939) stated:

"Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. D. A. Lasher, 75, formerly of Wymore, which occurred last Friday at her home in California. She was the mother of Ivan and Clayton Lasher of Wymore, Mrs. E. M. Blevins of Beatrice, and Mrs. Earl Blythe of Orosi, Tulare Co., Calif. Her husband preceded her in death in 1928. Mr. and Mrs. Lasher came here about 45 years ago and moved to the coast in 1922 in the hope of benefitting Mr. Lasher's health."

The following poem may have been written by Lilly's son Ivan Lasher at her death. It was type-written and was enclosed in an envelope which contained the obituaries of his mother and father.

MOTHER HAS FALLEN ASLEEP

Mother was tired and weary.
Weary with toil and with pain;
Put by her glasses and rocker,
She will not need them again.

Into Heaven's mansions she's entered,
Never to sigh or to weep;
After long years with life's struggles.
Mother has fallen asleep.

Near other loved ones we laid her,
Low in the church yard to lie;
and though our hearts are near broken,
Yet we would not question "Why?"

She does not rest
'neath the grasses,
Tho' o'er her dear grave they creep;
Mother has fallen asleep.

Rest the tired feet now forever,
Dear wrinkled hands are so still;
Blast of the earth shall no longer
Throw o'er our loved one a chill.

Angels through heaven will guide her,
Jesus will still bless and keep;
Not for the world would we wake her,
Mother has fallen asleep.

Beautiful rest for the weary,
Well deserved rest for the true;
When our life's journey is ended
We shall again be with you.
This helps to quiet our weeping -
Hark! Angel music so sweet!
Beautiful, beautiful sleep.

Ivan wrote in the margin of this poem:
"Mother born Sept 10th." She was buried on May 12, 1938 in Smith Mountain Cemetery.
