222 - JEFFERSON DAVIS PEFFLEY (son of No.189) married at St. Charles, Iowa, Sept. 13th, 1885, SARAH ELIZABETH CLANTON, born Oct.4th, 1869, (daughter of CHARLES FRANKLIN CLANTON and BARBARA ANN SHAVER). Charles F. Clanton was a son of Joel M. Clanton and Sarah Jane White).

In January 1885 Jeff went to St. Charles, Iowa, and was married there in September. He became a general Contractor and Builder which he has followed since. During the fifty years he has lived in St. Charles he has been very active in the life of the community. He is a very active church worker, filling the pulpit on many occasions. He was Mayor of St. Charles for one term. For sixteen years he was an I. O. O. F. State Lecturer; was Deputy Grand Master; Secretary of the lodge for twenty-five years; Noble Grand several times; belonged to the St. Charles Band for twelve years and was its manager for eight years. He has been correspondent for the county paper for twenty-four years and special writer on the homepaper a year and one half. He is a natural cartoonist. Facility with the pen is a Peffley trait.
