197 - MAY MILLER (dau. of No.190) married at Spokane, Wash., Sept. 5th 1909, EARL CLARENCE FROST, born at Portland, Ore., July 2nd, 1883 (son of BENJAMIN GARNER FROST and MARY JOSEPHINE RHODEBAUGH).
Benj. Garner Frost is a descendant of early settlers on Long Island. He was born at Clyde, Wis., Sept. 26th, 1855, a son of Benj. Garner Frost, (born May 12th, 1817, in Bennington Co., Vt.,) and Mary Eliza Thompson (born in New York, Nov. 27th, 1821.) They were married in Pink Creek twp., Durand Co., Ill, Dec.
29th, 1840, by the Rev. Pillsbury. Benj. G. Frost,Sr., was a son of Dr. Aaron Frost(b. 1783) and Mehitable Garner (b. 1789). MARY E. THOMPSON was a daughter of JONATHON THOMPSON and MARTHA GREER.
Mary J. Rhodebaugh was born in Farmington, Atchison Co., Kan., Mar. 6th, 1863, a daughter of Rev. Thomas Staver Rhodebaugh and Mary Etta May. Mary Etta May was a daughter of Caleb May and Margaret Parnell.
Caleb May was a noted pioneer of Kansas, settling there in 1854 and took an active part in the formation of the state. He was the only man who served on all three of its constitutional conventions.
May is a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School, Northwestern Business College, Spokane and attended Cheney Normal School. After teaching eight years she resigned from the Spokane Schools to be married; holds a life certificate in Washington. After marriage taught two years at Seaside, Oregon, and one year at Green Bluff, Wash., during the World War. First President of the Woman's Club, Seaside, Ore., Matron, Frazer Detention Home, Portland, Ore., for three years. A Member of the Order of the Eastern Star [OES].
Earl C. Frost was in the photograph business at the time of their
marriage. After closing out the Photo Supply House he was a salesman for the Geo. W. Jones Photo Supply Co. He was one of the first Scoutmasters in the Boy Scout movement at Spokane. In 1912 he moved to Seaside, Ore., where he entered the photograph business with his father. He was President of the Seaside Imp. Club. March 30th, 1917 he enlisted in Co. B, 3rd Oregon Infantry as a cook. Went overseas December 1917 with Co. B, 162nd, U. S. Infantry (old 3rd Oregon) as a Mess Sergeant, in the 41st (Sunset) Division, A. E. F. He was a speaker in Kansas and Missouri for the 4th Liberty Loan. He was discharged at Camp Greene, Charlotte, North Carolina, Jan. 8th, 1919 and returned to Spokane. He moved his family to Portland where he became Superintendent of the Frazer Detention Home, Court of Domestic Relations, for three years. He left this in 1922 to enter the poultry and hatchery business near Portland. In 1926 he moved to an 86 acre farm on the Mt. Hood Scenic Highway thirty miles east of Portland. Here he engaged in the poultry business, and in 1929 built a unique log inn known as the "Wistaria Farm Inn," which became famous all over the state for its "Chicken Fried in Butter." They closed out this business in the fall of 1933 and moved to Los Angeles in May, 1934.
