1399 - EMMA HARSHBARGER, (dau. of No.1398) married at Ladoga, at a double ceremony with
her sister Effie, Oct. 9th, 1888 REV. HOWARD HENRY KEIM, born
Aug. 1st, 1860 (son of SILAS CLARK and ANNA (Arnold) KEIM).
Howard H. Keim is second in a family of nine children. His father
Silas Clark Keim, born Oct. 6th, 1835, at Salisbury, Somerset Co., Penna., was one of seven sons and five daughters born to
Judge Keim of Salisbury in 1803. Judge Jonas Keim married Sarah
Livingood daughter of Christian Livingood, born 1811. The last of
their children ALBERT G. Keim, died at the age of 85 in
Dyersburg, Tenn., Dec. 10th, 1934. Anna, wife of Silas C. Keim, was the only daughter of Joseph Arnold and Elizabeth Sloan, both
of Virginia. Silas C. Keim and Anna Arnold were married at
Burlington, Hardy Co., Va., Jan. 12th, 1858. They had seven sons
and two daughters.
Emma Harshbarger attended Mt. Morris College, Ill., and Ashland
College, Ohio where she met Mr. Keim.
Rev. Henry Howard Keim began teaching school in Maryland at the
age of eighteen. He taught his last school in 1890. He was
teacher, preacher and surveyor at thirty. Moved to Indiana in
1891 to become a stock-man and farmer. He spent nineteen years in
Indiana farming preaching and lecturing. He was a first class
stock breeder. Established the Wild Rose Sheep Farm. He sold out
and moved to Newberg, Ore. in March, 1910. Moved to Bechelos
Island Farm of one thousand acres. Sold out and moved to Nampa
Idaho in 1916. Established small packing business in same year.
Served three years on the board of education; Mayor of Nampa from
1919 to 1921; put the city on a fine sewer system; lighted Main
St. with metal lamp posts; built a pesthouse and made the city
sanitary. In 1920 he incorporated the H. H. Keim Co. Ltd. with
four of his sons: William H. Keim, Treasurer; H. H. Keim, President; Wallace B. Keim, Vice-President; Stanley Bryce Keim, Secretary; Richard V. Keim, Manager.
Rev. Keim has been an ordained minister of the Church of the
Brethren for over forty years, always preaching without pay. His
son-in-law, Dr. C. Ray Keim and Howard Jr. are also ministers.
There is only one other Keim preacher in the Church of the
Brethren.
