What is the difference between list mode and digest mode?
When you subscribe to List mode (l) you will receive each post to the list individually. This can add up to a lot of mail.
When you subscribe to Digest mode (d) you will receive one email approx. every 12 hours. Digest mode will lump all the posts to the list into one letter.

My Black Sheep is still living and I want to join but don't want to post my story to the list...
Private qualification is an option when your using living family members or if the story is just "to close to home" and living individuals could be hurt by its public posting. You may submit your qualifier to any of the staff members or a qualified member of the list in this case.

How do I get my story on the web page?
In order to get your Black Sheep story on our homepage you must first be subscribed to the mailing list. Once on the list, submit your story and if you fit the requirements, you'll be told so. After you've been accepted into the society, you can request that the Site Manager post it. Posting your story is not manditory.
top

Do I have to have my story on the webpage?
No. Having your story posted on our website is your choice after you've become a member. Contact our Site Manager if you'd like your story posted after your qualified. Names may be altered in some cases to protect the living.

Who do I send my Black Sheep story to?
You should send your story directly to the mailing list after you've subscribed. In cases where it's a private story, you may ask any member of our Staff to qualify you in private.

My Black Sheep story is about a living family member but I want it posted, what can I do?
As long as nobody stands to be hurt by its public posting, it's ok to post about living family members. We tend to alter names in this matter though. At the very least, we will omit places and dates etc. Talk to our Site Manager in private if you want it posted on our site but have concerns about people named in the story.

Is there a way to read old posts just in case I missed something before I joined?
Yes! Search the Archives! Send your browser to
http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/search?aop and type in the word BlackSheep, this will take you to the BlackSheep Archives page. Then type in what your looking for. Note: Click Here To Search The Archives Additionally the Main Blacksheep mail list has moved to Google Groups, so those list postings are archived as well.

There's too much mail but I want to stay on the list, what can I do?
If the volume of mail is just too much for you but you want to stay on the mailing list, try switching to Digest mode. Write to
Jeff@ibssg.org and ask to be switched to dIGEST MODE.

There's too much mail, I want off the list! How do I get out?!
Please see our instructions at the very top of this page about how to unsubscribe. Posting multiple times to the list asking to be removed will not work!

The conversation isn't really genealogy related, why?
This mailing list is relaxed and we do tend to slip from the topic of Genealogy. If you don't like the turn we've taken, try bringing up a new topic. You may be amazed how fast we get back on track. If it's just too much for you to handle, you have the option of talking to a staff member about it or unsubscribing. *But we hope you stay*
top

I don't like the current thread of messages, what can I do?
Try changing the topic. Pick a fresh one and run with it. You can also pay attention to the subject line and delete the messages without reading them. Here's where that tricky rule comes in though, always change the subject line when starting a new thread!
